Lerche’s Toilet-Bound Hanako-Kun “restart project” will debut with After-School Hanako-Kun Anime on October 12 in Japan. Ten-minute episodes of this new series will be released over the course of four weeks. Aidalro, the creator of Toilet-Bound Hanako-Kun, has unveiled new character drawings for the series’ leads, Hanako-kun and Nene Yashiro, to mark the impending premiere. The show will begin streaming on Crunchyroll on October 10 — two days before it airs on television.

Despite its widespread popularity, the show’s second season was not announced for two years until its debut. Instead, it was revealed that the anime would restart.

In December 2022, Lerche stated that it would be rebooting the Toilet Bound Hanako-Kun anime series. The announcement was accompanied by a brief animated video, but no other information was provided. The primary Toilet-Bound Hanako-Kun manga series was the inspiration for Aidalro’s spin-off, After-School Hanako-Kun. Hanako-Kun and company are followed as they go about their daily lives in the manga, which Megumi Ogata, who plays both Hanako-Kun and Tsukasa, characterizes as a more “upbeat” twist on the main series.

After-School The scripting and directing teams for Hanako-Kun are different from those of the prior version. The series is being directed by Masaki Kitamura (Mobile Suit Gundam 00, Tiger & Bunny). The series composition is under the direction of Kazuma Nagatomo (Bakugan: Armored Alliance). The show’s chief animation director is Aya Higami (High Card, Scum’s Wish).

The music for the series will once again be composed by Hiroshi Takaki. Additionally, Akari Kito, Megumi Obata, and Shoya Chiba will return in their respective character roles of Nene, Hanako-kun, and Kou Minamoto.

Plot

2014 saw the publication of Aidalro’s Toilet Bound Hanako-Kun manga in Square Enix’s Monthly GFantasy Magazine. The story takes place in the halls of Kamome Academy, a school where many weird, confusing things frequently occur. It is a spooky comedy. Nene Yashiro, a lonely student, overhears a legend that claims a female spirit by the name of Hanako-Kun will appear in the third stall of the third-floor girls’ restroom and grant a wish if one goes there. Hanako-Kun turns out to be real and resembles a boy in his late teens, much to Nene’s surprise.

However, Nene unintentionally comes under a strong mermaid’s curse as she tries to get him to grant her request. Nene consents to be bound to Hanako and start a new life as his helper in order to save herself. Nene ultimately falls in love with him despite his continual taunting and joking and begins to consider who he was before he died

Manga

As of February 2023, there have been 20 tankoubon volumes in AidaIro’s Toilet Bound Hanako-kun manga series, which is published by Square Enix. After-school Hanako-kun started as a Pixiv serial in 2018 and ended with all of its content being compiled into one volume in 2021.
