Crunchyroll Confirms Simultanous Japanese-Airing and Simuldub Streaming for ‘Kaiju No. 8’ Anime


On Tuesday, Crunchyroll announced its plan to simulcast episodes of the anime adaptation of Naoya Matsumoto’s acclaimed manga Kaiju No. 8 simultaneously with their Japanese airing, starting from April 13 at 10:00 a.m. EDT. Additionally, the company will provide dubbed versions in English, Latin American Spanish, Portuguese, German, French, Italian, Castilian Spanish, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu at 11:30 a.m. EDT on the same day the anime premieres in Japan. Accompanying the announcement, Crunchyroll also released an English dub trailer.

Susie Nixon serves as the producer for the dub, with Jarrod Greene handling the English scriptwriting, and Nathanael Harrison as the ADR mixer. José Sandoval fulfills the role of ADR engineer.

Scheduled to premiere on TV Tokyo on April 13, Crunchyroll will stream the anime simultaneously with its television broadcast and provide an English dub. Additionally, the anime will be available for real-time streaming on X/Twitter worldwide, coinciding with its Japanese TV airing.

Under the direction of Shigeyuki Miya (known for Onihei), with series composition and screenplay by Ichiro Okouchi (Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion), Kaiju No. 8 boasts character designs and chief animation direction by Tetsuya Nishio (Naruto). Mahiro Maeda (Shin Godzilla) is responsible for monster design, while Shinji Kimura (Tekkonkinkreet) serves as art director. Yuta Bando (BELLE) provides the music.

Animation production is handled by Production I.G (Ghost in the Shell), with Studio Khara (Rebuild of Evangelion) in charge of kaiju designs and artworks.

The opening theme song, Abyss, is performed by British singer YUNGBLUD, while the ending theme song, Nobody, is sung by American pop rock group OneRepublic.

Matsumoto’s Kaiju No. 8 manga debuted on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ website in July 2020, with its first print volume released in December 2020. The series has enjoyed immense popularity, evidenced by multiple printings of its volumes due to high demand. In September 2021, the manga surpassed 4 million copies in circulation, setting a record as the fastest Shonen Jump+ manga to reach this milestone. The series has been recognized with nominations at prestigious awards ceremonies such as the Manga Taisho Awards, the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize, and the Eisner Awards. Additionally, it clinched the top spot in the seventh “Next Manga Awards” in the web manga category. A spinoff manga by Kentarō Hidano was launched on January 5.

VIZ Media publishes the manga physically and digitally in English. Shueisha also publishes the manga via its MANGA Plus service with the title Monster #8 and the company describes the story as follows:

A man working a job far removed from his childhood dreams gets wrapped up in an unexpected situation…! Becoming a monster, he aims once again to fulfill his lifelong dream…!
