The first season of the animated series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners attracted both everyday viewers and gamers alike… Unfortunately, CD Projekt Red has announced that there are no plans for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2. The 10-episode anime series premiered on Netflix on September 13 to largely excellent reviews. Satoru Honma, the Japan national manager for CD Projekt Red, was asked if this response had made the idea of a second season more likely in a recent interview with Famitsu.

Honma stated that there were no intentions to continue the narrative, nevertheless.
“I personally would like to continue to work with Japanese studios to produce more anime in the future, partly because we have received very good feedback.”
“However, just to be clear, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was planned as a standalone work, so there’s no such thing as ‘we are actually working on Season 2 in the background’.
“Even if we could make more anime in the future, I don’t know if it would be Season 2 or something completely different.”
“Overseas people say that the anime has given CDPR a second chance,” Honma informed Famitsu. “We are grateful to TRIGGER for giving us the chance to enjoy the story of V and Johnny Silverhand after watching the anime.”

If you have been following Cyberpunk: Edgerunner, the news that the programme won’t be returning for a second season won’t come as a major surprise. Nearly every member of David’s crew had passed away by the end of season one, including David. Lucy was the lone outlier who made it away.
Her trip could have continued in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 but sadly, that won’t be happening. The good news is that Honma is not permanently closing the door to this universe. The studio is currently working on a number of such films that we will see in the near future. Of course, that doesn’t help much anymore, does it?

The ‘Project Orion’ codenamed Cyberpunk 2077 sequel is being created by CD Projekt Red North America, a brand-new studio just established in Boston, USA. Soon after the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 expansion, Phanton Liberty, comes out next year, they will start working on Orion.
