Kadokawa announced that Doctor Elise: The Royal Lady with the Lamp (Gekai Elise, or Oegwauisa Elise in Korean) will be receiving a television anime adaptation. It is based on the Korean fantasy and shoujo romance manhwa of the same title, written by Yuin and illustrated by Mini.
To commemorate the anime adaptation, the anime staff revealed an illustration of the main characters, Elise de Clarence and Linden de Romanoff, by Mini, the manhwa character designer.

What Doctor Elise is About
Doctor Elise: The Royal Lady With the Lamp, based on Yuin’s original web novel and illustrated by Mini, finished with 143 episodes in June 2022.
The plot revolves around Jihyun Song, a brilliant surgeon and the youngest professor at Seoul National University’s medical school. Jihyun, on the other hand, has a secret: she is living her second life.
Jihyun was previously known as the heinous Elise de Clarence, who died after being burned at the stake. Now, in her current life, she hopes to turn her life around and dedicate it to saving the lives of others. However, a plane crash returns her to her first life.
Elise, reincarnated, resolves to live this life without regrets and decides to become a surgeon. Elise quickly rises to become a reliable doctor, armed with the knowledge of modern medicine and her genius.
She quickly captures the attention of the imperial empire’s first crown prince, Prince Linden, who has a cold exterior. She restarts her search for redemption, this time using her knowledge of modern medicine.
Is this her chance, now that she has the medical expertise of a master surgeon, to mend her past relationships and heal an ailing empire, or is fate doomed to repeat itself?
The Staff Working on Doctor Elise
Maho Film will be animating the anime adaptation of Doctor Elise: The Royal Lady with the Lamp.
Kumiko Habara (I’m Standing on a Million Lives; I’m the Villainess, So I’m Taming the Final Boss) is directing the series. Deko Akao (Noragami, Komi Can’t Communicate) is composing the series, while Yuko Watanabe is doing the character designs.
The Source Material
Doctor Elise: The Royal Lady with the Lamp is a South Korean web novel written by Yuin. From December 2015 to April 2016, it was serialized on Kakao’s KakaoPage service.
It has accumulated a total of four volumes of the novels. A second side story was also serialized from September 19 to November 27, 2017.
Mini’s manhwa adaptation was serialized in KakaoPage from September 18, 2017, to February 16, 2021. It has also been collected into ten volumes.
Doctor Elise: The Royal Lady With the Lamp was released digitally in English by Tappytoon on November 23, 2018, but has since been removed from the platform and published by Lezhin Comics instead.
The series is also available in Japanese on KakaoPage’s Piccoma service and in print from Kadokawa Shoten.
The seventh compiled book volume of the manwha was published in Japan in February 2022, and the eighth volume will be released on March 3. Additionally, as of February 2022, Doctor Elise had over 500,000 copies in print across seven volumes.
