Goblin Slayer Season 2 finished their run in the last winter. Kagyu Kumo’s dark fantasy series already left a deep impression since the first season. His work often appears if anyone mentions “Goblin” in anime fandom, thus, marking this series as a phenomenon.

So, how does the second season fare compared to the previous season and movie? Well, below, we already write our impression after watching the entire season. Read on!

About Goblin Slayer Season 2

Goblin Slayer is a Japanese light novel written by Kumo Kagyu and illustrated by Noboru Kannatsuki. Kosuke Kurosuke serialized a manga adaptation of the novel in the Monthly Big Gangan magazine. Later, Masahiro Ikeno replaces him for the second adaptation.

Currently, there are three anime adaptations for this dark fantasy anime series. The first season of Goblin Slayer aired in 2018 by White Fox. Two years later, the series released an anime film entitled Goblin Slayer: Goblin’s Crown in 2020. Lastly, Goblin Slayer Season 2 premiered in October 2023. The series aired on several streaming platforms such as Crunchyroll and Muse Asia.

Misato Takada (Saiyuki Reload) directs the anime series at LIDEN FILMS replacing Takaharu Ozaki (Persona 5 The Animation) from the first season. Hideyuki Kurata (Made in Abyss) is once again writing the series composition. Hiromi Kato (Monster Girl Doctor) serves as a character designer, while Kenichiro Suehiro (The Eminence in Shadow) composes the music.

The cast also reprises their own roles in Goblin Slayer Season 2. They include:

  • Umehara Yuichiro as Goblin Slayer
  • Ogura Yui as Oriestess
  • Youyama Nao as Elf Archer
  • Nakamura Yuichi as Dwarf Shaman
  • Sugita Tomokazu as Lizard Priest
  • Hikasa Youko as Witch
  • Uchida Maya as Guild Girl
  • Iguchi Yuka as Cow Girl
  • Matsuoka Yoshitsugu as Spearman
  • Aya Endo as Sword Maiden

Goblin Slayer comes back with a dark fantasy story where the world isn’t all rainbow. Unlike other fantasy worlds, the series doesn’t run on huge flashy magic where you can blow Goblin hordes in one swoop. Rather, it is close to reality where everyone has limits on how much magic they can learn and use in a single skirmish.

That exciting world-building attracts anime fans to how horrible monsters are in a literal sense. It also helps that the anime doesn’t really emphasize individual profiles but rather the roles they have throughout the series. It is rare enough that not a single name has been uttered for the character of Goblin Slayer through the episodes in the anime industry.

Storywise, Goblin Slayer Season 2 feels the same as Vinland Saga Season 2. Unlike the first season, the battle is less grandiose where not every adventurer is dispatched into war with the Goblin hordes. But, we can see the character development of the main character where he gets gradual re-humanization.

Looking back, it is unimaginable that he will take a break and venture to elven land only to attend a wedding ceremony. Thanks to his adventurer party, he realizes that hunting goblins isn’t the final goal, but his dream lies beyond that. In the end, he still chooses to walk on that path of carnage. However, it is not only for eradicating dangerous Goblins but for keeping what he holds dear.
