Malevolent Spirits: Mononogatari series is set in a world where spirits can manifest into the physical world by possessing objects. They gain a physical form called overprotective tsukumogami. Furthermore, the Saenome clan is responsible for keeping the balance between the two worlds.
Since each tsukumogami’s temperament is different, the Saenome clan tries as much as possible to gently send them back to the spirit world.
The plot follows Kunato, who is part of the clan but doesn’t share the ideology of peacefully sending back the tsukumogami. The spirits took something precious away from him and as a result, his rage eats at him. He became a vengeful Exorcist.
Eventually his Grandfather noticed the situation and sent him to Kyoto to live with Nagatsuki Botan to deepen his understanding of the tsukumogami. Hyouma was to learn to control his anger so as not to cause supernatural catastrophes and leave his violent path.
