Monster Hunter Stories Remastered Game Releases on June 14; Sequel Gets PS4 Port

During the CAPCOM Highlights Day 2 livestream on Tuesday, CAPCOM announced the upcoming release of the remastered version of Monster Hunter Stories for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC via Steam on June 14. Additionally, the company revealed that Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin would receive a PlayStation 4 port on the same date.

The remastered edition of Monster Hunter Stories boasts full voice acting, enhanced graphics, a Museum mode, and previously Japan-exclusive content. The game’s narrative unfolds in a Riders village, where children embark on their journey with a game called “Egg Hunting Tag.” Protagonist Lilia, along with Shuval, ventures into the forest, discovering a monster egg that eventually hatches. This encounter sets the stage for their individual adventures.

Originally launched for Nintendo 3DS in Japan in October 2016 and subsequently in the West in September 2017, Monster Hunter Stories was later adapted for smartphones in Japan in December 2017 and in the West in September 2018. Meanwhile, Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin premiered worldwide for Switch and PC via Steam in July 2021.

In addition to its gaming presence, the Monster Hunter franchise has spawned the Monster Hunter Stories RIDE ON tie-in anime, debuting in Japan in October 2016. The series was made available with English subtitles on Crunchyroll, while Funimation offered an English Dub version.

The Monster Hunter series is a popular action role-playing game (RPG) franchise developed and published by Capcom. The series debuted in 2004 with the release of Monster Hunter for the PlayStation 2. Since then, it has expanded across multiple gaming platforms, including handheld consoles like the PlayStation Portable and Nintendo 3DS, as well as home consoles like the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

Set in a fantasy world filled with diverse ecosystems and formidable creatures, players take on the role of Hunters tasked with tracking down and slaying various monsters. Gameplay typically revolves around exploration, gathering resources, crafting equipment, and engaging in epic battles with the game’s titular monsters.
