The team behind SAND LAND: THE SERIES, the eagerly awaited anime adaptation of the late Akira Toriyama’s beloved SAND LAND manga, made a significant announcement on Monday through a new trailer unveiling both the opening and ending theme song artists, alongside a captivating key visual.

In the trailer, viewers were treated to a preview of Kroi’s dynamic opening anthem titled “Water Carrier” and Tempalay’s soulful ending track “Drive My Idea.”

Set to make its debut, the anime will kick off with the simultaneous release of its first seven episodes exclusively on Disney+ Star’s “STAR Anime Series” programming on March 20. Following this, fans in the U.S. can catch the series on Hulu. The initial six episodes, known as the “Akuma no Ōji” (Prince of Demons) arc, will reimagine footage from the anime film, repackaged into a series format, with additional scenes included. Subsequent episodes, from 8 to 13, will premiere weekly on Wednesdays. These episodes will feature an entirely new narrative arc titled “Tenshi no Yūsha” (Angelic Heroes), unfolding in a fresh locale named “Forest Land,” conceptualized by Toriyama himself.

Excitingly, the series will see the return of familiar voices and talents from the film:

Mutsumi Tamura as Beelzebub

Kazuhiro Yamaji as Rao

Chō as Thief

Satoshi Tsuruoka as General Are

Nobuo Tobita as General Zau

Joining the cast for the “Tenshi no Yūsha” arc are two new additions:

Mikako Komatsu as Anne

Ayumu Murase as Muniel

The anime series will be helmed by Toshihisa Yokoshima, returning as director, while Hiroshi Koujina serves as the direction adviser. Scriptwriting duties will be handled by Hayashi Mori, with Yoshikazu Iwanami directing sound and Yūgo Kanno composing the music.

Originally serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine from May to August 2000, the Sand Land manga received one compiled volume in November of the same year.

Following its successful anime film adaptation in Japan in August 2023, which premiered at Comic-Con International San Diego in July, the film is slated for a North American release in 2024.

Excitement for the SAND LAND franchise doesn’t end there, with an action-packed role-playing game set to launch for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam on April 26 (April 25 in Japan).

Manga Publisher VIZ Media Describes the Story:

In the far future, war has destroyed the entire Earth, leaving only a barren wasteland where the supply of water is controlled by the greedy king. In search of a long-lost lake, Sheriff Rao asked the king of the demons for help…and got the king’s son, Beelzebub, and his assistant, Thief. Together the unlikely trio sets off across the desert, facing dragons, bandits and the deadliest foe of all… the King’s army itself! It’s travel adventure and tank action in this new story from Akira Toriyama, the creator of Dragon Ball Z!
