Who doesn’t know Junji Itou? The most, arguably, famous horror manga artist in Japan. Despite being so famous, his work, Uzumaki, has gone through many delays for years.
But, fans should be glad because the anime was confirmed to air this year. To make an amend for delaying the series, the official release of Uzumaki’s first look on YouTube.

Uzumaki First Look
Uzumaki anime was first announced at Crunchyroll Expo back on August 2019. It was planned to be broadcasted in 2020. Yet, due to some circumstances, the anime was delayed to 2021.
From then on, the delay spree was started each year from 2021 to 2022 and once again from 2022 to 2023. Fortunately, there is no delayed announcement this year. Instead, we have an update on Uzumaki’s first look.
The video was released by Adult Swim on July 2023. It seems they adapt the exact art of Junji Itou in the series. Using black and white animation, it is clear that they weigh on the horror aspect rather than the appealing visual.
Despite releasing the first look video, the release date hasn’t been announced yet. But, Jason DeMarco, co-founder of Toonami, confirmed in his tweet that Uzumaki anime will premiere later in 2023.
Uzumaki Anime Cast and Staff
The complete cast of Uzumaki was released on July 22, 2020. The VA doesn’t get any change despite having been delayed for three years. The list of VAs is as follows:

Unlike the cast, the official only released a few of the key staff names. Hiroshi Nagahama (Mushishi, Aku no Hana) is directing the anime at I.G Production (Tengaku Daimakyou). Itami Aki (Hybrid Child) is writing the series composition.
Umezaki Hiroko (Noragami, Amnesia) is in charge of Color design, while the anime will hire Colin Stetson (Color Out of Space, Hereditary) to compose the music.
The story takes place in the town of Kurozu. Kirie Goshima, who leads an ordinary life, walks to the train station to meet her boyfriend, Shuuichi Saito. Before going, she stumbles upon his father looking at the snails in the alley.
Despite being an odd sight, she thinks nothing of it. But, somehow, she mentions it to her boyfriend. Out of the blue, Shuuichi asks her to leave the town with him. He tells her that the town is infected with spiral obsession.
Later she realizes that the shape obsession becomes the beginning of madness which ravaged the entire town.
