Kitarou Tanjou: GeGeGe no Nazo Movie Key Visual is here. Kitaro Tanjou – GeGeGe no Nazo (“The Birth of Kitaro – The Mystery of GeGeGe”), a coming-up theatrical anime film that honours the 100th birthday of the late manga author Shigeru Mizuki.

They are honouring him by delving into the origins of one of his most well-known characters: the ghostly boy Kitaro has unveiled a chilling new key visual and the main cast.

The Key Visual looks mortifying. Especially since Kitarou can be seen peering through what appear to be unravelling bandages while holding them in his fingers in the dismal and dark image.

The tagline in the teaser image (above) reads: “What kind of thing are you?” and shows Kitaro peeping beneath a covering of bandages. Furthermore, The movie investigates the enigmas surrounding Kitaro’s birth and is based on the sixth GeGeGe no Kitaro TV anime.

Honouring Shigeru Mizuki

Mizuki, who passed away in 2015 at the age of 93 from heart failure, would have turned 100 on March 8th, 2022. The mangaka was a well-known historian, especially on his own experiences in World War II.

He was also regarded as an authority on Ykai, or traditional Japanese ghosts and monsters. Furthermore, the popularity of his GeGeGe no Kitar manga series and the ensuing anime series (plural) based on them is understandable.

The movie is one of four “big projects” honouring Shigeru Mizuki’s birth 100 years ago. In 2015, Mizuki, who was 93 years old, passed away. Furthermore, A new Akuma Kun animation that will debut on Netflix this autumn is another undertaking.

When a number of unexplainable phenomena plague adults of the human world with confusion and chaos, Moreover thirteen-year-old Mana writes a letter to the Yokai Post in search of answers, only to be greeted by Ge Ge Ge no Kitaro.
