One Piece Film Red, a pirate musical animation film, still has some wind in its sails as it nears the end of its ascent through the Japanese box office ranks.

One Piece Film Red Success

The movie had the most revenue in terms of both dollars and yen at the box office in Japan in 2022. The Japanese theatrical run of One Piece Film Red, which began on August 6 last year, will finish on January 29.

In terms of both the quantity of tickets sold and the amount of money made at the box office, the picture has emerged as the highest-selling and highest-earning film entry in the franchise.

The anime ranks as the #9 highest-earning movie in Japan overall and as the #6 highest-earning anime movie. While The Number places it at #30, Box Office Mojo ranks it as the #25 global movie of 2022.

One Piece Film Red had the highest opening-weekend attendance and revenue among movies released in 2022 with 1.57 million viewers and over 2.25 billion yen ($17 million) in sales during its first weekend in Japan.

It is also the best-performing One Piece movie ever and broke attendance records in 2022 to become the movie with the highest revenue. It has been seen on screens all around the world and debuted in US theatres in early November. According to Box Office Mojo, the movie made $9,475,251 in its first weekend in theatres (November 4-6).

On November 4 of last year, Crunchyroll released One Piece Film Red in the US and Canada, and on November 3 in Australia and New Zealand. In its second week in the country, the movie earned US$12,768,073, placing it eighth at the box office.

Eiichiro Oda Special Visual for the Success

Eiichiro Oda created a drawing to honor the achievement that shows Zoro and Sanji on a wanted poster among most of the franchise’s key figures, but with the money from the movie’s profits instead of a reward amount.

On Tuesday saw the posting of a commemorative drawing of Zoro and Sanji by Eiichiro Oda on the movie’s official Twitter account. For the 18 billion (136 million dollars) income milestone revealed in early November 2022, the author created a wanted poster of Gordon.

At 19.60 billion yen, the movie is still the ninth-highest-grossing movie of all time in Japan and the sixth-highest-grossing anime movie of all time, trailing only Hayao Miyazaki’s Howl’s Moving Castle in both rankings.

It appears like One Piece Film Red won’t surpass Howl’s Moving Castle and will just narrowly miss the 20 billion mark at this point, but only time will tell if Toei will go above and beyond to push Luffy’s Biggest Adventure across the finish line.

So What do you think will One Piece Film Red be able to surpass the mark of 20 Billion and become the Highest grossing movie of all time? Let us know in the comments.
