Seirei Gensouki Season 2 What We Know So Far

The summer of 2021 provided us with so many memorable experiences that it would be difficult to choose a favorite. A few standouts include Tokyo revengers, installments of a popular series like my hero academia, and even classic isekai like the star of our show today, Seirei Gensouki Season 2.

You know what they say about familiarity right? It’s like rushing into your lover’s arms after a long time away. One word: cozy. And that is precisely what we have on our hands today, a tried-and-true way about an Isekai.

Spirit Chronicles or Seirei Gensouki was co-produced by TMS Entertainment (which produced anime such as Lupin III, and Detective Conan) with WAO World pointing out that it wasn’t underbudgeted. The animation and song quality were both excellent, making it sit above your regular isekai.

I’ll take you through what we know so far about the second season.

The Release Date Of Seirei Gensouki Season 2

Following an announcement made on the 5th of November 2021, Seirei Gensouki season 2 was renewed. The information came from their official website.

The announcement didn’t mention the exact date of the official release. Given the studio’s history, it could be that the wait will soon be over.

The first season announcement came through on the 26th of November 2021 and premiered in July 2021. This showed that they needed 8 months to spew out 12 episodes, covering up to 5 volumes of the source material. Based on this previous pattern, the upcoming season will likely debut in late 2022 or early 2023.

But at this time, no additional news about the anime is available yet, except for a few teaser visuals. There is only one possible release window from elimination: the first quarter of 2023.

Quick Recap of the Plot

For an isekai to earn its name, some gruesome deaths have to take part in the buildup. It’s also weird that the culprits are usually vehicles. This time around, a bus and a train did a collabo on our main character. Now hear this, he was on a bus, whose driver messed up big time and somehow got in the way of a train that obliterated them.

There’s something about isekais revolving around car accidents. Random fact: Japan’s fatality rate in car accidents has increased in the last decade due to an aging society. People are more likely to die when they get hurt in car accidents.

What Season 1 Was About

Back to our story. Our main guy, Haruto, arrives in the other world and suffers a case of amnesia due to special circumstances. His mind is corrupt with memories of the body he finds himself in. He has a shocking epiphany as he finds himself in the body of a small boy referred to as Rio by some strangers.

Haruto’s and Rio’s memories give the boy a headache which makes him doubt if he was ever from Tokyo. After confusion and pain, the boy’s feelings take over. Seeing his mother killed at a very tender age, the boys burn with an insatiable urge for revenge.

As this block’s title suggests, I’ll cut this short to make it a ‘quick’ recap.

Seirei Gensouki Season 2 Recap

On his quest for revenge, he saves a princess. His reward would be integration into the royal court of that particular kingdom.

He received an education in penmanship, magic spells, and swordsmanship in a prestigious academy. This is not without challenges, as issues such as social standing and jealousy hinder the completion of his studies. He had to flee from that kingdom to reach his native land due to personal conflicts with other students.

As he fled, he made companions and acquaintances that accompanied him on his journey. When he finally reached his homeland, he finds out that he had royal blood, as his mother was a princess. The object of his revenge, the killer, was also revealed to be from the kingdom he fled from.

So he set off to fulfill his vengeance. A few detours later after reaching his destination, he gets caught up in the sketchy marriage of an old friend. She seemed to be hiding something sinister and he had to intervene, which seemed logical.

Now, this is where the controversy is at. After building relationships, getting acquainted with his memories of another world, and saving a girl like a knight in shining armor; it all comes tumbling down in the last minutes of the final episode.

Light pillars shoot out of the ground at various locations without any prior warning. They find out that other reincarnates arrived with them; people he knew from his previous life. Then, fin.

The abrupt twist filled fans with disgust and excitement. It’s a terrible combo to serve someone you’re on good terms with.

Reaction From The Fans

The anime scored a 4.1/5 on Crunchyroll, 7.2/10 on IMDB, and 7.03/10 on MyAnimeList, which isn’t half bad and justifies the renewal for the following season.

The fans’ feelings were in the extremes; They either loved the series or were thrown completely off by it.

Fans were thrown off by the unexpected ending since it didn’t add to how the story was set up. The whole beam of light affair brought up questions of inconsistencies.

It contradicted how the reincarnation system worked in the first place. The extreme cliffhanger further fanned the flames of hatred at the end. When the next season starts, we will see a lot of spiteful returning fans.

A review from myanimelist tried to point out that the reason for the clear isekai tropes in the series came from the compression of a long story by the production team. The written works expand on the world-building and working of this fictional world.

Usually, people who watch isekai do it as a hobby and don’t expect top-notch work. So, when the producers deliver something worthwhile, fans gobble it up, eager to see how the next installment will be.

Seirei Gensouki’s writer to tried at least to write a coherent story between the different timelines running through the series.
