Story of Pluto Anime
The formidable Swiss robot Mount Blanc has been destroyed in the perfect future where humans and robots live together in peace. A prominent member of an organization advocating for robot rights is killed elsewhere.
Although the two crimes don’t seem to be connected, there is one very obvious clue: both victims’ bodies have been transformed into a weird collage, replete with horn-like props put beside their heads.
Robot investigator Gesicht, one of the seven great robots of the world, is given the case by Interpol. Eventually, he learns that he, too, is a target since he is one of the seven great robots of the world.
Pluto Manga Information and Message
Takashi Nagasaki is the producer and Naoki Urasawa is the author and illustrator of the manga Pluto. From 2003 until 2009, it appeared serialized in Big Comic Original, a publication of Shogakukan. A manga anime will debut in 2023.
The comic follows Gesicht, a robot investigator who is looking into a series of robot homicides. As Gesicht understands that he could also be a target of the murderer, things get much more difficult.
In a quote provided by Netflix, Urasawa said, “I applaud the courage of everyone that has taken on the challenge of making an anime based on PLUTO. I am excited about the birth of this new series to win over people’s hearts. I hope that now more than ever, Osamu Tezuka’s message reaches the world.”
Co-author Takashi Nagasaki added, “PLUTO inherits the philosophy of Tezuka and does not merely convey a message of anti-war, but reminds us that there is suffering on both sides… but still, the only remaining answer is peace.”
Supervisor Macoto Tezuka, a son of the late Osamu Tezuka, said, “The animated PLUTO is the real deal, and in addition to this being Urasawa’s latest work, this is also a new Tezuka anime. I can hardly wait to see how this new generation of anime turns out.”
