Jobless Reincarnation’s Source Material
The series adapts the wildly popular Japanese light novel by Rifujin na Magonote, also featuring illustrations by Shirotaka. Originally self-published online in 2012, the story quickly amassed a dedicated fanbase, leading to a print release from Media Factory’s MF Books imprint in 2013.
Mushoku Tensei’s popularity skyrocketed, with over 13 million copies of the light novels sold worldwide by June 2023. The series also inspired a manga adaptation by Yuka Fujikawa, serialized in Monthly Comic Flapper magazine since 2014. Seven Seas Entertainment holds the English licenses for the original novels, Fujikawa’s manga, and the Mushoku Tensei: Roxy Gets Serious spinoff.
Jobless Reincarnation Plot Summary
At its core, Mushoku Tensei follows Rudeus Greyrat, an unemployed 34-year-old shut-in who hits rock bottom after being kicked out by his family. Just when he thinks life can’t get any worse, a speeding truck strikes and kills him. However, instead of meeting his end, Rudeus awakens reborn as an infant in a fantastical world filled with swords and sorcery – retaining all his memories. Determined to seize this second lease on life, he sets off on an extraordinary adventure unlike any he’s experienced before.
