The announcement also hinted at the introduction of a fresh character. Aoyama has been sporadically releasing chapters of the manga since 1988, with a brief return for three chapters in 2014. The most recent chapter of Magic Kaito was published in 2017, alongside the fifth compiled volume released that same year. The manga’s protagonist, Kaito Kid, frequently intertwines with Detective Conan narratives and plays a pivotal role in the forthcoming Detective Conan: The Million-dollar Pentagram film.

The ninth issue of Weekly Shonen Sunday in January teased the resurrection of a manga that had been on hiatus for seven years, slated for April 10.

The original Magic Kaito manga centers around Kaito Kuroba, a young magician following in his late father’s footsteps as the renowned thief Kaitō Kid. This character has become a significant presence in Detective Conan’s universe, often appearing as a formidable adversary.

The Magic Kaito manga was adapted into television specials in 2011, while Aoyama initially launched the manga in 1987 before placing it on hiatus in 1988. Since then, the manga has seen irregular serialization.

A-1 Pictures produced a television anime adaptation of the manga in 2014, which was also streamed on Crunchyroll. Detective Conan manga briefly halted serialization in December to mark its anniversary. The upcoming 27th Detective Conan movie titled Detective Conan: The Million-dollar Pentagram is set to premiere in Japan on April 21, 2024.

Further details revealed that the character Kid’s secret, which was not revealed in the original manga, will be revealed in this film.

The official website also reveals the upcoming film’s synopsis:

A notice from Kaito Kid arrived at the repository of the Onoe Zaibatsu in Hakodate, Hokkaido.
