Sugar Apple Fairy Tale Impression

For those who think this series will include a high dose of sweet sugary romance, it’s not. Some viewers may turn back after looking at the title, well, they aren’t wrong. What can be expected from the keywords sugar, apple, and fairy? The first thing in mind will be the sweet life of a girl working in a sugar factory.

However, brace for another Madoka’s impact where the anime title is misleading. Though to be fair, Sugar Apple Fairy Tale isn’t as dark as Madoka, it has its own twist which also makes the story deeper but not overwhelmingly deep. For reference, the story is closer to Yona of the Dawn (2014). Though it has a different setting, the vibe is almost the same.

In terms of graphics, J. C. Staff did a good job of making beautiful art and animation. While it can’t be said for combat animation, the details for background and character design are outstanding. The sound also fits with the cozy and calm atmosphere throughout the series.

Overall, the anime is well-made. Unfortunately, the anime fell into the underrated anime category. There is no fault for this anime, it’s just the anime released at the same time was much better than this anime. Thus, making it gain less attention.

As of now, there is no news for the second season of Sugar Apple Fairy Tale. Maybe Kadokawa will give the green light after seeing the sale of the BD & DVD version of the anime. With the light novel’s sequel coming to an end, there might be a chance we can continue the journey of a confectionary artisan, Ann, and his warrior fairy, Challe.

Stay tuned for future anime news in Animefleek.
